KEDARNATH (RUDRAPRAYAG), 26 Apr: Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan arrived at Kedarnath Dham here on Saturday and conducted a comprehensive inspection of the preparations and arrangements for the upcoming Char Dham Yatra. During his visit, he also reviewed the ongoing reconstruction efforts in Kedarnath and provided necessary directives to the officials concerned.
The Chief Secretary also examined the newly-constructed bailey bridge over the Mandakini and Saraswati rivers, noting that its completion would ensure enhanced ease and convenience for pilgrims. He also reviewed the rain shelters along Aastha Path, emphasising the need for LED signage to help pilgrims locate essential facilities such as toilets, medical assistance, and other necessities with clarity.
Taking note of the challenging weather conditions in the Kedar Valley, Bardhan instructed that hot water be made available to pilgrims waiting in queues, ensuring a more comfortable experience for them. He inspected cleanliness and sanitation arrangements from the temple complex to Aastha Path on the banks of the Saraswati river, evaluating the condition of installed toilets. He also directed officials of Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) to complete all cottage repairs along the Yatra route in a timely manner while maintaining strict cleanliness standards. He stressed that all arrangements be executed efficiently to avoid any inconvenience to travellers.
During his inspection, the Chief Secretary also visited Rudra Point and Ghoda Padav, assessing crowd management strategies, drinking water provisions, medical facilities, rest areas, and sanitation measures.
District Magistrate (DM) Saurabh Gaharwar apprised the Chief Secretary that departments associated with the Kedarnath Yatra were working in coordinated harmony. Essential arrangements throughout the Yatra route and the Dham area had been completed on schedule, with remaining tasks expected to be concluded before the pilgrimage commences.
The DM also confirmed that infrastructure such as walkways, accommodation, health services, potable water supply, electricity, communication networks, and emergency protocols had been reinforced. Basic amenities were ensured at all designated halts for the comfort of pilgrims.
Superintendent of Police Akshay Prahlad Konde shared that the security arrangements were in place, with a dedicated police force deployed along the Yatra route.
