Dehradun, 7 Apr: The Dehradun district administration in past one year has taken many proactive steps to ensure relief and help to the needy, particularly since Savin Bansal has taken over as the District Magistrate. In a similar humane and sensitive gesture, the district administration has provided significant relief to widow Shama Parveen, who has been struggling under the weight of family responsibilities and financial distress. Acting on the directions of DM Savin Bansal, the officials coordinated with the bank concerned to settle her outstanding loan through a one-time settlement. Following this, the bank issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and a No Dues Certificate, while the remaining Rs 33,000 was deposited directly by the DM to close the account.

It may noted here that Shama Parveen had approached the DM’s office on 28 March 2026, explaining that she had borrowed Rs 1.25 lakhs from DCB Bank in 2014 for her elder daughter’s marriage. Tragically, her husband passed away the same year, leaving the family in financial turmoil. In 2020, her married elder daughter also succumbed to Covid-19, compounding the crisis. With three unmarried daughters, one son, and a five-year-old granddaughter dependent on her, she stated that she was unable to repay the remaining loan amount.

Responding swiftly, the DM ensured that her burden was lifted by arranging the settlement and personally facilitating the payment of the balance. Not only this, the administration also took proactive steps to support the education of her children. Her younger daughter Faiza’s schooling was revived under the Nanda-Sunanda project, with Rs 27,000 in fees provided, and an income certificate issued on the spot to remove procedural hurdles. In addition, Shama’s granddaughter Ayra was admitted to a nearby private school under the Right to Education (RTE) provisions, ensuring her access to quality education.

The officials emphasised that similar cases will continue to be prioritised, ensuring that the needy and helpless receive timely aid and dignity in their struggle.
