Dehradun, 29 Oct: An important meeting of the Dehradun Zila Panchayat was held today at the Zila Panchayat Auditorium under the chairpersonship of new District Panchayat President Sukhwinder Kaur. The session witnessed detailed deliberations on the district’s development works, public welfare schemes, and forthcoming projects, along with consideration of proposals passed in various Zila Panchayat committees.

Chairperson Sukhwinder Kaur reviewed the progress of development works being undertaken by different departments. She directed the officials to ensure effective and timely execution of all the schemes in progress. She underlined that transparency and public participation are crucial for the district’s holistic growth and urged Zila Panchayat members and departmental officers to maintain close coordination to ensure quality implementation of projects on the ground.

During the meeting, members of the Zila Panchayat raised issues concerning their respective areas, particularly relating to the construction of rural roads, irrigation canals, restoration of disaster-affected infrastructure, drinking water supply, education, health, sanitation, and employment-oriented schemes. Members also pointed out that in many places, river mining has damaged flood protection walls, leading to substantial losses during the monsoon. They proposed that the cost of flood protection and compensation for damaged assets in such areas be recovered from the mining contractors. It was also suggested that the tax collected by the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) for approving housing construction maps in rural areas be utilised for carrying out local development works such as roads, water supply, electricity, canals, and drainage facilities.

The members also apprised the house of the damages caused to private and government properties as well as agricultural crops during the recent monsoon and sought urgent reconstruction of affected assets and adequate compensation for farmers. They stressed the need to implement long-term protective measures to prevent such losses in the future. In addition, discussions were held on enhancing the income of the Zila Panchayat, with departmental officials presenting detailed reports on the ongoing development projects across the district.

A major decision was taken to frame a policy for the sterilisation and vaccination of stray dogs. The proposal for the same was placed before the house, and it was resolved that the District Panchayat would seek guidance from the state government and request the formulation of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

Among those present at the meeting included Chakrata MLA Pritam Singh, Zila Panchayat Vice-Chairperson Abhishek Singh, members Madhu Chauhan (former District Panchyat President), Shyam Singh Chauhan, Praveen Rawat, Raghuvir, Keshar Singh, Amita Raj, Virendra Singh, Diwan Singh, Sachin Chauhan, Rekha Negi, Hemlata, Surendra Singh Chauhan, Sanjay Kishore, Sumit Negi, Pinki Rohilla, Mohammed Mustakin, Savita, Govind Singh, Kanchan, Hukum Chand, Arshikhan, Khushboo Gurung, Meena Manwal, Beer Singh, Rashmi Devi, Vineeta Raturi, Vijay Lakshmi, Divya Belwal, along with other public representatives and senior district-level officers from various departments.
