Dehradun, 2 Nov: Uttarakhand Congress General Secretary and Programme Implementation In-charge Rajendra Shah has congratulated the party’s senior leaders, national leadership, office-bearers, Congress workers and supporters from Uttarakhand on the success of the ‘massive’ Congress rally organised at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1.

In a statement issued here, Shah claimed that the ‘overwhelming public response’ to the rally reflects growing public concern and dissatisfaction over what he described as the anti-people policies of the BJP governments at the Centre and in the states, rising inflation, unemployment, corruption and the alleged misuse of democratic institutions. He said the large turnout of Congress workers from across the country underlines the party’s commitment to safeguarding democracy, the Constitution and the rights of ordinary citizens.

Shah alleged that despite the BJP’s claims of taking a strong stand against corruption, several serious allegations of corruption had surfaced during its tenure. He said BJP leaders should also introspect on their own governance and functioning. Referring to reports raising questions over offerings received at the Ram Temple, Shah said the BJP had come to power by invoking the name of Lord Ram, and therefore transparency and accountability in matters connected with people’s faith remained essential. He added that Lord Ram is revered by millions and that the issues linked to religious faith should be handled with complete transparency and responsibility by both the government and temple management.

He said the common citizen is presently grappling with challenges such as inflation, unemployment, economic inequality and corruption. He claimed that oung people are struggling to find employment opportunities, farmers continue to face difficulties in securing remunerative prices for their produce and poor as well as middle-class families are burdened by rising prices. He alleged that instead of addressing these basic concerns, governments were diverting public attention away from real issues.

Shah said the rally at Ramlila Maidan had sent a strong message that the Congress would continue its struggle to raise public issues and defend democratic values. He stated that the participation of a large number of Congress workers from Uttarakhand demonstrated that the state unit stood firmly with the national leadership.

Expressing gratitude to Congress workers for making the rally a success, Shah said party cadre would continue their struggle with the same spirit of unity and dedication. He asserted that Congress workers would continue their agitation on public issues until BJP governments were removed from power at both the Centre and in the states.

Shah further said that under the leadership of Uttarakhand Congress president Ganesh Godiyal, Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya, Election Campaign Committee chairman Pritam Singh and Election Management Committee chairman Harak Singh Rawat, programmes are being organised across the state on issues concerning public welfare.
