Sir,
This is in reference to your coverage ‘Over 100 Kalnemis…’, Editorial ‘Certifying Spirituality’ in Garhwal Post dated 14 July ‘25 and ‘Uttarakhand Govt’s Operation Kalnemi…’ In Garhwal Post dated 15 July ‘25. While the Kanwar Yatra is a sacred religious tradition for millions, recent incidents of rash behavior and violent destruction of public and private properties are deeply disturbing. Such incidents have become déjà vu moments year after year. It is unfortunate that a few elements, under the garb of devotion, tarnish the image of the entire community and pose a threat to public peace. Authorities and administrations must ensure strict enforcement of law and take swift action against those who misuse religion to spread chaos. Religious faith should not become an excuse for anarchy. Uttarakhand Govt’s ‘Operation Kalnemi’ is a welcome step and has been appreciated across party lines. If implemented with empathy, rationally and with resolve, this law enforcement initiative shall go a long way in monitoring and controlling anti-social activities during religious events using proactive approach and technological expertise. It also reflects the secular dimension of the present government, which is refreshing and shall uphold faith and public order.
