DEHRADUN, 15 Sep: Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam today concluded his four-day visit to Uttarakhand and returned home after a series of engagements in Rishikesh and Haridwar. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami saw him off at Jolly Grant Airport and presented him with the sacred prasad from the Char Dhams along with some products from the state’s umbrella brand, ‘House of Himalayas’, as a memento.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhami observed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s flag is flying high across the world and expressed confidence that the visit of the Mauritian Prime Minister would further strengthen cultural ties between India and Mauritius.
It may be recalled that Ramgoolam, accompanied by his wife, Veena Ramgoolam, was warmly welcomed on his arrival in the state by local women with traditional songs of greeting and tika on his forehead, and was adorned with a basil garland. During his stay he lauded the natural beauty of Uttarakhand and was reported to be particularly captivated by the scenic charm of Rishikesh. His visit is seen as a boost to tourism and cultural exchange between the two nations. It may also be noted that strict security arrangements were put in place throughout his stay of four days in the state. For the departure of Ramgoolam, the entire stretch of road from Dhalwala to the Narendra Nagar bypass was declared a zero-traffic zone, with vehicles coming from the Chamba side halted at the bypass. Regular traffic resumed only after the convoy of the visiting dignitary had passed.
