Dehradun, 8 Jun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the staging of a play, titled ‘Hind Di Chaadar’ here, today, marking the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur. The event, organised by the Uttarakhand Sikh Coordination Committee and Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Charitable Hospital, was held at the auditorium of Doon Medical College, Patel Nagar.
On this occasion, the CM paid homage to Guru Tegh Bahadur’s supreme sacrifice, mentioning his pivotal role in safeguarding Dharma. He remarked that Guru Tegh Bahadur laid down his life when the country’s faith, culture, and dignity were under severe threat. He further emphasised that the Guru is rightly called Hind Di Chaadar, the Shield of India, for his unparalleled dedication to religious freedom, national unity, and social harmony.
Addressing the audience, the CM credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for significant steps taken to protect Sikh interests, citing historical decisions such as the Kartarpur Corridor, FCRA registration for Harmandir Sahib, justice for 1984 riot victims, Veer Bal Diwas, and the Hemkund Sahib Ropeway project.
On this occasion, Dhami announced that Uttarakhand has issued detailed guidelines to ensure grand celebrations for the 350th anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom anniversary. He also shared that work on the 12.5-km-long Govind Ghat-Hemkund Sahib ropeway is progressing swiftly, enabling devotees to complete the journey in just 45 minutes.
Also expressing gratitude to the organisers and the artists, the CM hailed the play as a significant effort to connect the youth with India’s glorious history. He described it as more than just a cultural performance and as a powerful source of inspiration.
Also present on the occasion were Delhi Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli, Gurudev Singh, along with the event’s organisers and the artists.
