New Delhi, 26 Jun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made a courtesy call on Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi, today, and congratulated him on behalf of the people of the state on being given Defence Portfolio again.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister also requested the Defence Minister to transfer the land of the Defence Estate Department located in Nainital to the state government for the development of parking facilities. This request has been made keeping in mind the convenience of tourists and devotees coming from the country and abroad to Nainital. The CM said that Nainital has become important not only from the tourism but also the religious spiritual point of view. The number of devotees from around the world visiting the renowned Baba Neem Karoli ashram, ‘Kainchi Dham’, in Nainital district is increasing rapidly. Devotees visiting Kainchi Dham stay in Nainital or the areas adjacent to it.

The CM stressed that in case the land owned by the Defence Estate Department is transferred to the state government, it can solve the parking problem in Nainital to a great extent. It is located not too far from Nainital Lake. The area demanded by the state from the Defence Department is around 3 acres in total. In case this land is made available to the state government, then the problem of parking in Nainital would be solved to a great extent.

Dhami added that the government proposes to develop the site as a multi storey parking facility with space for about 1,500 to 2,000 vehicles. Singh assured Dhami of his cooperation to the extent possible.
