DEHRADUN, 27 Apr: Doon International School Riverside Campus, hosted a captivating musical play “Neeli Chhatri” on Sunday evening. The production was inspired by Ruskin Bond’s popular novel The Blue Umbrella. Presented in Hindi and directed by theatre artist Ujwal Jain, the performance beautifully brought to life the innocence, longing, and subtle human emotions embedded in Bond’s storytelling.

Adding a distinctive cultural dimension, the play seamlessly incorporated Pahadi folk music and traditional Garhwali songs, reflecting the authentic ethos of the Garhwal Hills where the story is set. This thoughtful inclusion lent the production a rich indigenous texture, transforming it into a vibrant amalgamation of language, literature, and regional culture. Though originally an English literary work, its Hindi adaptation infused with local musical elements created a deeply immersive and relatable experience for the audience.
The event commenced with a warm welcome address by the School Director, Harinder Singh Mann, who lauded the performers and emphasized the importance of literary engagement.
The musical highlighted the timeless appeal of Ruskin Bond—one of the most cherished authors among young readers—and reinforced the significance of exposing students to English literary classics through immersive and culturally enriched experiences.
