Dehradun, 22 May: Under the leadership of District Magistrate Savin Bansal, the Dehradun district administration has continued to work with sensitivity and a humane approach to improve the lives of needy, helpless and marginalised families, addressing treatment, education, financial assistance, employment and debt relief through hundreds of cases. The administration has moved beyond routine duties to bring tangible change in the lives of sufferers and families in distress by providing timely support and hope.
One such beneficiary is Sunita Kalwar, a widow from Doiwala who is battling cancer. She approached the DM and related her plight, explaining that severe financial hardship had made it difficult to continue both her treatment and her children’s education. She requested fee waivers and financial help to prevent disruption to her children’s schooling.
Recognising the sensitivity of the case, DM Savin Bansal issued immediate directions. Acting on those instructions, the district administration sanctioned and disbursed Rs 50,000 to Sunita Kalwar from the Rifle Club fund. In addition, the authorities ensured enrolment of her son in school and revived her daughter’s interrupted education through the district’s flagship initiative, Project Nanda-Sunanda. These steps have given the children a renewed sense of direction and security for their future.
Sunita underwent cancer surgery at the JP Nagar hospital on 11 July 2024 and her treatment is ongoing. Faced with financial and social challenges during the course of treatment, the family received not only monetary assistance but also sustained humane support and reassurance from the district administration, which is coordinating continued efforts for her care and family welfare.
Over recent years the district administration has provided financial assistance amounting to several lakhs to numerous needy families, resolved outstanding electricity and water dues, facilitated bank loan relief, extended medical aid and offered support through the Rifle Club fund. Through Project Nanda-Sunanda the administration has also revived the education of hundreds of underprivileged and helpless girls, reintegrating them into the mainstream.
