Dehradun, 10 Oct: District Magistrate Savin Bansal has informed the media that rallies, processions and protests have been banned at some major crossings in Dehradun. In a statement issued today, he noted that demonstrations, processions and rallies are organised daily at the major intersections of the capital city, which cause traffic jams that severely affect the main roads and intersections, leading to complete road blockage.
Bansal, in this regard, held detailed discussions with SSP Dehradun Ajai Singh and now a new arrangement has been made at the six main intersections of the city to address this long-standing issue. The new arrangement aims to prevent disruptions to essential services and traffic caused by various events such as dharnas, processions, and rallies which have been causing public dissatisfaction.
Later, today, the DM issued orders to ban dharnas, processions and rallies at important and busy places in the city like Clock Tower area, Gandhi Park, Astley Hall Chowk, Darshan Lal Chowk, Tehsil Chowk and Buddha Chowk in the interest of public convenience. The ban applies with immediate effect.
Under the new arrangement, for rallies or marches organised by any organisation or political party aiming to reach the Secretariat, the rallies will gather near Doonga House opposite the Parade Ground and then proceed through Pacific Tiraha via Kanak Chowk and go towards Income Tax Tiraha and culminate there. The rallies aiming to march from Parade Ground to reach the Raj Bhawan or the Chief Minister’s Residence will now be stopped at the Pacific Trivium.
As far as social, traditional or religious processions are concerned, an action plan will be prepared and implemented after a meeting with the District Administration, Police, and Traffic Administration to determine the time, route, and number of participants.
