Dehradun, 14 Jul: The Dehradun District administration yet again took action to help a widow seeking appointment on compassionate grounds in the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (Doon Nagar Nigam).  The officials stressed that, in line with the Chief Minister’s vision of responsive governance, District Magistrate Savin Bansal, and his core team, are executing swift interventions that are not only delivering accessible justice to the masses but also bolstering confidence in administrative mechanisms. The consistent and people-centric approach adopted by Bansal has resulted in a perceptible rise in public faith towards the district’s justice and welfare frameworks.

During the ‘Janata Darshan’ programme held on 7 July, an appeal was presented to the District Magistrate by a widow named Renu. She conveyed that her husband, Surendra Singh, had been a permanent environmental worker at the Dehradun Municipal Corporation and had tragically passed away on 17 April 2025. With two young daughters and a precarious financial condition, Renu had formally applied to the Municipal Corporation for a job under the compassionate appointment quota and submitted all necessary documents. However, her application has seen no progress. District Magistrate Bansal immediately took cognisance of her case, summoned officials from the Municipal Corporation and the Tehsil, and directed them to take immediate action. He raised questions in respect of the delay, questioning the basis of the Municipal Corporation’s objections when a clear provision for compassionate appointments exists in the rules.

Emphasising that Renu was entitled to the post as a matter of right, Bansal expressed dissatisfaction over the inaction and instructed the Municipal Commissioner to facilitate her appointment without further delay. Bansal also ensured that the Tehsil’s report was promptly forwarded to the Municipal Corporation, thereby reviving Renu’s hope of securing employment in her late husband’s stead.

It may be reminded here that the public hearing called Janata Darshan is held every Monday in Dehradun and here it is increasingly drawing individuals from across the region who seek redressal for a wide range of grievances. The rising footfall is indicative of the programme’s growing relevance and effectiveness. Issues presented now span beyond the revenue department, encompassing various government departments, private companies, and institutions, for which the administration remains committed to delivering prompt and pragmatic solutions.
