Dehradun, 16 Jul: District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan led a plantation drive by planting saplings in the Collectorate premises on the occasion of Harela. He joined the officials and the employees in planting trees and appealed to the residents of the district to undertake extensive plantation and pledge to protect the saplings they plant.
The DM stressed that Harela is not merely a traditional festival but a symbol of faith, sensitivity and responsibility towards nature, environment and life. He observed that Uttarakhand’s rich folk culture has always conveyed the message of coexistence with nature and Harela is a living example of this tradition. He underlined that trees are invaluable treasures of the earth, vital for clean air, water conservation, biodiversity and ecological balance. In the present times of climate change, rising pollution and increasing pressure on natural resources, every citizen must treat plantation not as a formal event but as a people’s movement.
He stressed that plantation will only be meaningful if the saplings are regularly protected and nurtured. Urging everyone to plant at least one tree in their lifetime and take responsibility for its care, he said such efforts will provide future generations with a clean, safe and green environment. He added that Harela inspires one to conserve the environment, enhance natural resources and carry forward the green cultural ethos, while also expressing gratitude to nature and reinforcing ecological balance. He appealed to the residents to actively participate in the campaign by planting more trees and motivating others to do the same.
During the programme, saplings of various species were planted in the Collectorate premises. The officials and employees present collectively pledged to protect the environment, safeguard the plants and contribute to building a green atmosphere. On the occasion, ADM (Finance and Revenue) KK Mishra, City Magistrate Rakesh Tiwari, along with other officers and staff of the Collectorate were present.
