Dehradun, 29 Oct: The district administration has begun preparations for the Mussoorie Winterline Carnival-2026, with a focus on organising the event in a grand, well-coordinated and tourist-friendly manner. A review meeting chaired by District Magistrate (DM) Ashish Chauhan was held at the NIC Auditorium in the Collectorate here today to assess arrangements related to the carnival and issue directions to the concerned departments.

During the meeting, the DM directed all the departments concerned to work in close coordination and complete preparations in a time-bound manner. Given the expected increase in tourist footfall during the carnival, he stressed the need for robust security and traffic management. He instructed officials to ensure adequate arrangements for cleanliness, beautification, road maintenance, drinking water supply and other essential public services so that both tourists and local residents are not inconvenienced.

Chauhan emphasised that the Mussoorie Winterline Carnival is not merely an entertainment event but an important platform for promoting tourism, showcasing local culture and historical heritage, and creating employment and income opportunities for local people. He said the event should be planned in a manner that not only attracts visitors but also highlights Mussoorie’s unique identity and historical significance.

The DM also directed the officials to undertake beautification of important historical monuments and heritage buildings in Mussoorie and integrate them into the carnival’s programme schedule. He suggested organising events based on local history, traditions, folk art and regional cuisine at such locations so that domestic and international tourists can gain a deeper understanding of Mussoorie’s cultural and historical legacy. He said presenting the town’s rich heritage through carnival activities would enrich the visitor experience and help strengthen Mussoorie’s identity as a tourism destination.

Chauhan also asked the officials to study successful carnivals and tourism festivals organised in other parts of the country and explore the possibility of incorporating innovative and effective practices suited to Mussoorie’s local conditions. He emphasised that quality, coordination and tourist convenience should remain the top priorities in all activities associated with the event.

The DM noted that the carnival plays a significant role in promoting tourism and generating economic opportunities for hotel operators, traders, transport service providers, local artists and others associated with the tourism sector. Among those present at the meeting were Chairperson of Mussoorie Municipal Council Meera Saklani, Joint Magistrate Mussoorie Rahul Anand, SP Jaya Baluni, Chief Treasury Officer Neetu Bhandari, District Tourism Development Officer Jaspal Chauhan, Hotel Association president Sandeep Sahni, Hotel Association secretary Ajay Bhargava and other departmental officials.
