Dehradun, 21 Nov: Continuing its action against illegal encroachment in many parts of Dehradun city, SSP Dehradun Ajai Singh today visited the Kotwali and Patel Nagar areas to review the action taken by the Doon police against encroachment. On the ground himself, SSP Dehradun inspected Saharanpur Chowk, Lal Pul, and other areas, and sought detailed information from the officers present regarding the action taken by the police against temporary encroachments.
The officers were instructed by Singh for continuous effective action against both permanent and temporary encroachments. Additionally, Singh also directed the officials to register cases under the relevant sections of BNS against individuals making permanent encroachments on the main roads and to take prompt legal action in the registered cases.
It may be recalled that yesterday, during the action against encroachment, a total of 48 cases were registered against 84 shopkeepers/establishment owners who had encroached public places or pavements. Also, 134 people who obstructed the movement of people by putting up carts or shops on the main roads were also penalised under the Police Act and a compounding fee of Rs 38,300 was collected from them. Apart from this, 27 shopkeepers or establishment owners who did not get the verification of the workers employed in their establishments done were also penalised under the Police Act and a fine of Rs 2.70 lakh was imposed on them. Police have claimed that its action against temporary encroachment will continue.
