Dehradun, 17 Mar: Acting under “Operation Crackdown” to curb crime and keep a check on suspicious elements, Dehradun Police carried out a major verification drive in the Cantt area on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun. The intensive campaign was conducted across Azad Colony, Govindgarh, Yamuna Colony, Idgah and Bindal areas, where large-scale verification of residents, tenants and persons from outside districts and states was undertaken.
As part of the drive conducted yesterday and today, the police teams carried out verification of 780 individuals residing in the area. During the drive, 90 suspicious persons who failed to produce any valid identity documents on the spot were brought to the police station for questioning and a detailed verification.
The police also took strict action against house owners who had failed to comply with tenant verification norms. A total of 43 landlords were booked under relevant provisions of the Police Act for not verifying their tenants, and a cumulative fine of Rs 4.30 lakhs was imposed on them. In addition, action was taken against 15 persons found violating rules, who were challaned under the Police Act and fined Rs 3,750.
It may be reminded here that the verification drive is part of an ongoing statewide effort aimed at effectively controlling crime and monitoring suspicious activities by identifying unverified tenants and unauthorised residents. SSP Dehradun, Pramendra Dobal has directed all subordinate officers to continue such drives in their respective jurisdictions and ensure strict compliance with verification norms.
The Police officials stated that the campaign will continue across the district in the coming days, with a focus on enhancing public safety and preventing criminal activities through proactive policing and systematic verification measures.
