Dehradun, 9 Aug: Dr Gaurav Luthra, Cataract and Lasik Surgeon at Drishti Eye Institute, Dehradun earned a prestigious honour from the Indian Society of Cornea & Keratorefractive Surgeons (ISCKRS) at their Annual Conference held in New Delhi from 1 to 3 August. Selected as the distinguished orator for the marquee refractive surgery session, Dr Luthra presented over 20 years of expertise with phakic intraocular lenses (ICL) surgery for specs removal.
Held at Le Méridien, New Delhi, the conference drew leading practitioners, researchers, and educators in corneal and refractive surgery from across India and abroad. Dr Luthra’s oration, titled “Two Decades of Experience with Phakic Lenses (ICL) and the Latest Advances in ICL Sizing and Vault Prediction Using Advanced Imaging and Deep Learning”, offered a compelling blend of clinical insight and technological foresight. His forward-looking approach to AI-driven vault prediction and lens selection drew keen appreciation from peers and delegates alike.
The conference united top minds in ophthalmology for live surgery demonstrations, expert sessions, and interactive panels on cutting-edge corneal and refractive care. It also featured award sessions for free papers, hands-on wet labs, and skill development workshops, with a special emphasis on grooming young ophthalmologists through dedicated mentorship tracks.
The two other orations were delivered by Prof Bennie Jeng and Dr William Myers from the USA.
Dr Luthra expressed gratitude to the ISCKRS leadership, including Prof JS Titiyal, Prof Namrata Sharma, Prof Rajesh Sinha, Dr Rajib, and Dr Rishi Mohan, for bestowing this distinguished honour. The ISCKRS Annual Conference stood out as a leading platform for advancing education, innovation, and excellence in eye care – reaffirming its commitment to nurturing the next generation of vision science leaders.
Drishti Eye Institute has been at the forefront in offering the latest technologies in Specs removal surgery since 2002 when it first introduced wavefront LASIK to the region followed by Phakic lenses (ICL) for very high Myopia in 2006 and bladeless LASIK in 2010 besides Contoura LASIK in 2016, among the first in India.
Drishti was also the first in the region to start SMILE flapfree Laser surgery in 2017 and continues to lead in introducing newer technologies in the country attracting patients from India and abroad for latest specs removal surgery.
Dr Gaurav Luthra has been previously recognised for his pioneering work in Refractive surgery internationally by being one among only 3 doctors awarded an Honorary Fellowship in Refractive Surgery (FWCRS) by the World College of Refractive Surgeons. He has also been bestowed the Honorary Fellowship of the All India Collegium of Ophthalmology in Cataract & Refractive Surgery—an honour that has been awarded to only one other renowned surgeon in India so far.
Drishti Eye Institute is one of the few recognized institutions in the country imparting a fellowship programme for eye surgeons in Refractive Surgery for over a decade.
