New Delhi/Dehradun, 6 Aug: Uttarakhand Minister for School Education, Technical Education, and Higher Education, Dr Dhan Singh Rawat met Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi in New Delhi to discuss key higher education initiatives, including a Rs 459.095 crore project to strengthen academic and research infrastructure at Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna (HNB) Garhwal Central University.
According to Dr Rawat, the project, proposed under the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA), is expected to enhance academic excellence, research, and innovation while creating modern facilities that will benefit students, faculty, researchers, and the wider community.
During the meeting, Dr Rawat also invited the Union Minister to inaugurate the newly constructed campus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar (Garhwal). He requested the early appointment of a permanent Director to ensure the institution’s smooth functioning and highlighted the issue of waterlogging on the campus. He also sought the Centre’s support for the rehabilitation and resettlement of six affected families.
Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi assured the state of positive consideration on all the proposals.
The Union Minister also congratulated Uttarakhand on its achievements in the education sector under Dr Rawat’s leadership, including becoming a fully literate state and the selection of the Uttarakhand SCERT’s teacher training initiative among the world’s top six projects in the UNESCO AI for Education Awards 2026.
