Dehradun, 22 Apr: A plantation drive was initiated by students of Ecole Globale School of grades 4 & 5, who planted saplings in the school premises on the occasion of Earth Day. Earth Day is celebrated on 22 April with a myriad of educational activities. The theme for 2019 is: Protecting our Species.
With the fear of Global warmin, looming large above mankind, Ecole Globale felt the need to sensitise the young brigade about the atrocities meted out to Mother Earth.
It was stated that the first celebration of Earth Day took place in 1970, coordinated by the Earth Day Network, in an effort to spread awareness with regard to the calamitous degradation of the environment. The Officiating Principal Roopa Gosain addressed the children and stated that planting a few trees was not the end of their responsibilities, they needed to carry forward this crusade for environment conservation from the school to the homes and to the world, at large.
