Dehradun, 16 Oct: Experts at Graphic Era shared insights on food security and rural empowerment through the food industry, food processing, and bio-evaluation.
A conference was organised today at Graphic Era Deemed University on World Food Day. Addressing the conference, President (Designate), Association of Food Scientists and Technologists India, Paramjit Singh Manesar said that the food industry generates a massive amount of waste worldwide, which poses a major challenge for both the environment and resource conservation. Through his presentation, he shared information on modern techniques adopted for the bio-evaluation of by-products from the food industry and their efficient management. Paramjit said that converting these by-products into value-added products will not only reduce environmental problems but also benefit the industry and the economy.
Quality General Manager, Megastar Food Limited, Bhupendra Singh Khatkad stated that ensuring global food security is one of the greatest needs today. Its solution lies not only in increasing production but also in prioritising agriculture and the food processing industry. He added that the food processing sector not only empowers farmers but also highlights the true value of agricultural products. Promoting the food processing industry in rural areas will be a concrete step toward sustainable development and a better future.
Chancellor, Graphic Era Deemed University, Dr Narpinder Singh also addressed the conference.
During the event, students set up various food stalls. These stalls offered a range of delicious dishes including cakes, chocolates, khakhra, chaat, and kathi rolls, which were visually appealing and tasty.
The conference was organised by the Food Science and Technology Department of Graphic Era Deemed University in collaboration with the Association of Food Scientists and Technologists India. The programme included HOD, Dr Vinod Kumar, along with Dr Sanjay Kumar, Dr Bindu Nayak, Dr Ankita Dobhal, Dr Krishan Ayush, other faculty members, and students.
