Tharali, 26 Dec: A major accident occurred in Chamoli district yesterday when debris suddenly fell in a tunnel under construction in Gholthir. Two workers were trapped in the debris, but were rescued by other workers present at the site.
The rescued workers were taken to the District Hospital in Rudraprayag. Unfortunately, one worker, Shyam Lal Marandi, aged 40 from Jharkhand, succumbed to his injuries. The other worker, Deepchandra from Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh, sustained minor injuries and was discharged after receiving first aid.
The incident happened around 9 a.m. yesterday at the Rishikesh-Karnprayag railway line tunnel construction site. The sudden collapse of debris caused chaos in the tunnel, prompting an immediate rescue operation.
