Haldwani, 20 Nov: Haldwani Police have received a complaint that the family which had saved a female constable during the riot on 8 February in Banbhulpura in Haldwani is receiving threats. It may be recalled that, on 8 February this year, in the violence that took place in the Banbhulpura police station area of Haldwani, many people had lost their lives, and both government and private property had suffered heavy damage. It may also be recalled that several police officials, including women officials were seriously injured in the violence. Some local people however had also helped the police and district administration during the violence. Now, a family that had helped save the life of a woman constable is allegedly being threatened by the alleged rioters.
The family has alleged that some individuals are threatening to kill them. It is alleged that some people in their neighbourhood are angry because they saved the female constable and are abusing and threatening them on a daily basis.
Mehreen, wife of Abid Ahmed, a resident of Naya Basti Thokar in Ward No 31 of Banbhulpura, in this regard met Haldwani Police Circle Officer Nitin Lohani last evening. Mehreen stated that during the violence in Banbhulpura on 8 February, some people were intent on beating a female police constable. She saved the life of that constable by hiding her in her house. Though this act was largely appreciated, some people in the neighbourhood are displeased with it.
Mehreen has also alleged that these individuals harass her and her family daily. A family living in the neighbourhood is regularly abusing her and her family members and is asserting that her family ought to be killed for saving the policewoman. Mehreen’s husband Abid reported that one of their daughters was also beaten up by these persons. Some people in their neighbourhood want them to leave their house. He stated that some individuals want to give a communal colour to the incident to spoil the city’s atmosphere. CO City Nitin Lohani has ordered an investigation into the matter. On the complaint of the victim’s family, Banbhulpura police have launched an investigation.
