Dehradun, 15 May: With temperatures soaring and the tourist season in full swing, the Uttarakhand Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) has stepped up its vigilance over the quality of packaged drinking water and cold beverages being sold across the state. Strict guidelines have been issued to ensure proper storage and compliance with quality standards.
Health Secretary and Commissioner, FDA, Dr R Rajesh Kumar, asserted that there would be no compromise on food and beverage quality during the peak summer months. He directed the officials to conduct regular inspections and ensure that packaged water and cold drinks in the market meet the required standards. Violators of these regulations will face stringent action, he warned. Kumar reiterated the state government’s commitment to safeguarding public health and warned that any lapse in quality control would not be tolerated.
Additional Commissioner, FDA, Tajbar Singh Jaggi, stated that these monitoring orders have been issued under the directives of Dr R Rajesh Kumar. He noted that the demand for packaged drinking water and cold beverages surges in the summer. However, improper storage in open and unsanitary conditions has been observed at several locations, compromising quality and posing serious risks to public health. The department has been receiving continuous complaints regarding such irregularities.
Jaggi also cautioned consumers against purchasing cold water sold openly without proper authorisation, as it could pose health hazards. He urged people to opt for certified and licensed products and to report any violations to the department.
