GOA, 24 Nov: A presentation on film shooting and investment by the film industry in the state of Uttarakhand was made under the ‘Knowledge Series’ here, on Friday, at the ongoing 54th International Film Festival of India 2023.
The presentation was made by Dr Nitin Upadhyay, Nodal Officer of the Uttarakhand Film Development Council.
Dr Upadhyay stated that, under the guidance of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, efforts are being made to encourage the film industry in the state. Work is underway to establish a 360-degree eco-system for the film industry, focusing on talent, training and technology. In line with this objective, a new film policy for the state has been proposed, opening opportunities for investment in the film industry. This includes establishing film cities, institutes, new shooting studios, and providing special grants and facilities for new production houses.
During the presentation, Dr Upadhyay also stated that, as per the directions of Chief Minister Dhami, the Global Investors’ Summit 2023 is scheduled to be held in December in Dehradun. Investors from various sectors would be invited to invest in various sectors. There is immense potential for film production, filmmakers and directors in Uttarakhand. He also explained the service sector policy of the industries department, where up to 25% subsidy is provided for investment in the film and media sector.
He added that the subsidy for Hindi films is being significantly increased, and subsidies are also being considered for OTT/Web Series and TV-Serials. Uttarakhand is well-connected by road, rail, and air routes from all major cities of the country. Clearances for shooting permissions have been streamlined, and the state government has received national awards four times for the facilities provided to film producers in the state.
Dr Upadhyay invited all film producers, directors, writers and industry stakeholders to invest in the film industry in the state. Information about film shooting and investment was shared by various individuals associated with the film industry at the Uttarakhand Pavilion, where more than 100 filmmakers, directors, writers, and industry professionals from various countries and Indian states gathered, including Russia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Gujarat, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Jharkhand, and more.
