Dehradun, 3 Mar: As part of ‘Jan Aushadhi Week’, a free health camp was organised in Jakhan, here, today. The health camp witnessed participation of nearly 70 people, out of whom 68 patients were provided medical consultation and essential medicines. The beneficiaries included 31 women, 28 senior citizens and nine other citizens.
It may be recalled that ‘Jan Aushadhi Week’ is observed every year from 1 to 7 March across the country. This week culminates in ‘Jan Aushadhi Diwas’ on 7 March. This year’s theme is ‘Jan Aushadhi – Affordable and Trustworthy’, with the extended message “Jan Aushadhi Sasti Bhi, Bharosemand Bhi – Sehat Ki Baat, Bachat Ke Saath”.
An outreach initiative aimed at spreading awareness about affordable and quality generic medicines, Jan Aushadhi Week 2026 is being observed across the country and on this occasion, health check-up camps are also being organised. The celebrations mark the beginning of a week-long series of events leading up to the eighth Jan Aushadhi Diwas on 7 March. As part of the programme, the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, is organising health check-up camps at more than 250 locations across the country from 1 to 5 March, 2026. Additionally, Jan Aushadhi Pad Yatras are being conducted in 30 cities on 6 March.
In alignment with this year’s theme, the camps are not only providing on-site diagnostic services but also disseminating information about affordable and quality generic medicines available at Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJK) established under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana.
At the Jakhan camp held here, today, services included blood sugar testing, ESR, haemoglobin tests, CBC and diabetes screening. A total of two medical consultation sessions were conducted. Free medicines were distributed, including Jan Aushadhi medicines, painkillers, antipyretics and supplementary drugs. One doctor, Dr Ashish Jain, MBBS, PG Diploma in Diabetes, rendered medical services during the camp. Meenakshi Nautiyal, Councillor, Jakhan, Rajpur Road, Dehradun, Dr KS Rana, MD, and Dr Maroof were also present on the occasion. In their address, special guests emphasised the need to enhance awareness about Jan Aushadhi medicines and urged the general public to avail themselves of affordable and reliable medicines.
It may also be reminded here that a similar free health camp was organised at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Doiwala, here yesterday. Nearly 114 people participated in the camp at CHC Doiwala, out of whom 108 patients received medical consultation and necessary medicines. The beneficiaries comprised 66 women, 32 senior citizens and 16 other citizens.
The initiative marks a significant step towards providing accessible, affordable and quality healthcare services to regional residents in accordance with the objectives of the Jan Aushadhi scheme.
