Gov, CM to flag off first batch of pilgrims for Hemkund Sahib on Wednesday

Dehradun, 15 May: The Meteorological Office has once again predicted rains and snowfall over the next few days in the higher hills of Uttarakhand. As per reports, snowfall has been continuing in Kedarnath ever since the beginning of the Yatra, and this has led to obstruction especially for those who trek to Kedarnath from Gaurikund. Obstructions have been reported in chopper flights, too, but they have been able to continue the Yatra. As per the orders issued by the district administration of Rudraprayag, no new registration will be done for Kedarnath till 24 May, but those who have already registered before the stay will be allowed to travel.
So far, over 2.89 lakh pilgrims have already visited the Kedarnath Dham.
The district administration of Rudraprayag had some days ago withheld fresh registration for the Kedarnath Yatra till today, but in view of the alert issued by the Meteorological Centre that the weather is likely to remain bad till 24 May, the the stay on fresh registration has been extended till 24 May. Meanwhile, the Chamoli district administration continued its preparation for the Hemkund Yatra, which will be flagged off by Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami from Rishikesh on 17 May. The portals of the Gurdwara Hemkund Sahib will open on 20 May.
Meanwhile, according to the reports reaching here, an avalanche has been reported in Satopanth and in Neelkanth Hill, some 22 kms away from Mana in district Chamoli. So far no loss of life or property has been reported.
