Dehradun, 21 Dec: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) heard the problems of ex-servicemen and members of the general public during a Jan Milan programme held at the Lok Bhawan here, today, and assured early resolution. The Governor stated that the primary objective of the Jan Milan programme is to directly hear the grievances of the general public—especially ex-servicemen and their dependants—and ensure their prompt redressal.
During the programme, a total of 12 people from the districts of Pauri, Almora, Udham Singh Nagar, and Dehradun presented issues related to land disputes, compensation, employment, development works, and financial assistance before the Governor. He directed the Grievance Redressal Officer to immediately forward them to the District Magistrates and departmental officers concerned to ensure time-bound resolution.
The Governor said that most problems are minor and routine in nature, but delays in their resolution cause unnecessary hardship to the public. He instructed officials to resolve such issues in accordance with rules, on a priority basis, and at the earliest.
On this occasion, a matter concerning some youths recruited into the Indian Army—raised during a previous Jan Milan—was also mentioned. These youths were not being called for the Army selection interview due to non-availability of their degrees from the university on time. With the intervention of Lok Bhawan, the university issued the degrees within just three days. Similarly, in the case of a student who was denied the opportunity to appear in an examination due to technical reasons, prompt action by the university, following correspondence from Lok Bhawan, allowed the student to sit for the examination. The youths and their families expressed their gratitude to the Governor.
Finance Controller Dr Tripti Shrivastava and Grievance Redressal Officer Vinod Shah were present on the occasion.
