Gov praises products made by women self-help groups

Nainital, 25 Jun: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) on Tuesday saw the products displayed by women of self-help groups at the Raj Bhavan, here, today.

Women from development blocks Bhimtal, Haldwani, Betalghat, Dhari, Okhalkanda, Kotabagh, Ramnagar, Ramgarh of Nainital district displayed their products at the exhibition.

On this occasion, the Governor also honoured Basanti Rana, Deepa Devi, Geeta Devi, women of self-help groups, for their commendable work.

While observing these products made by the women’s groups, the Governor said that the women power of Uttarakhand is very talented as well as an example of self-reliance. He said that, after last year, a change has been seen in the products, which is commendable. Women are selling their products in the country and abroad, which has brought a positive change. The value addition done to the products would increase their prices. He expressed confidence that the economy of the state would be revolutionised through self-help groups.

He appreciated that the products made by women self-help groups are going from local to global. He said that such groups are an inspiration for others. He directed the CDO to share the success stories of such women with others. He also directed holding of training on packaging and branding of these products. The Governor praised the products made by women like wooden artifacts, lamps, bakery products, pickles, jams, handicrafts, LED lights, spices, etc.

On this occasion, CDO Ashok Kumar Pandey informed the Governor about the self-help groups established in the district and other schemes of rural development. On this occasion, the Governor’s wife, Gurmeet Kaur, APD Chandra Fartyal, officials of Rural Development Department and women of self-help groups from various development blocks were among those present.
