Gov urges Universities to become ‘student-centric’

Dehradun, 26 Apr: Governor Lt-General Gurmit Singh (Retd) has said that the education system should be student-centred. All round development of students and quality education should be the motto. Capacity building of the students should be ensured and they should be prepared for the use of modern technologies. The curriculum, teaching arrangements and financial management of the university should be in the interest of the students. These instructions were given by the Governor during a review meeting of all state universities at the Raj Bhavan, here, on Wednesday.
Lt-General Singh said that the universities have many possibilities to increase their financial resources, on which they should lay special emphasis. Financial resources should be put to better use. Maximum emphasis should be laid on the use of modern technologies like e-office, artificial intelligence, mobile applications and websites.
The Governor added that, in the interest of the students, the development of the university is the responsibility of the Vice-Chancellor. The Vice-Chancellors should use their talent, potential for quality education and best utilisation of the resources. Innovation is necessary for the betterment of the universities. They should also not hesitate to take tough decisions in the interest of the students. Further, the internal problems of the universities should be resolved at the vice-chancellor level.

The Governor instructed all the Vice-Chancellors that an annual calendar be prepared based on the activities of the university, on the basis of which their monitoring could be done. He gave instructions to make special efforts to advance the economically weak students. He declared that the universities should make efforts to further improve the educational level of their affiliated institutions.
The status of pending affiliation cases at the level of universities, recruitment of teachers in universities, online affiliation for new sessions, formation of inspection committee for affiliation, raising the academic level to a higher level, were discussed. The Governor was informed one by one on many important points.
