CM flags off 59 new UTC buses

Garhwal Post Bureau

Dehradun, 5 Nov: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today flagged off 59 new ordinary buses of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) from his official residence here. The induction of these BS-VI-compliant buses into the corporation’s fleet is expected to further strengthen the state’s public transport system and improve the availability of safe, convenient and comfortable travel facilities for passengers across Uttarakhand.

The CM asserted that the state government is making continuous efforts to expand and modernise public transport services across the state. He said that providing better transport connectivity in hills and remote regions remains a high priority of the government. According to him, along with road connectivity, a robust public transport network is essential to ensure that the benefits of development reach villages located in the farthest corners of the state.

Dhami said the addition of new buses to the UTC fleet would provide better facilities to passengers and enhance connectivity between different regions. He said the government’s objective is to connect every part of the state through improved transport infrastructure so that both local residents and tourists can benefit from smooth and convenient travel.

The 59 new buses have been allocated across three divisions of the corporation. Of these, 19 buses have been allotted to the Nainital Division, while 20 buses each have been allocated to the Tanakpur and Dehradun divisions. The buses will be operated on various routes as per requirements, helping improve public transport services and ensuring greater convenience for commuters.

At present, the UTC operates a fleet of 1,276 buses, including 891 self-owned buses and 385 contracted buses. The addition of the new buses is expected to further strengthen the corporation’s operations. Complying with BS-VI emission standards, the buses will also contribute positively towards environmental conservation.

The CM said that public transport holds special significance in a hill state like Uttarakhand. Improved transport services not only make travel easier for people but also promote economic and social activities in remote areas. He said the state government remains committed to making transport services safer, more reliable and more convenient for the public.

Transport Minister Pradeep Batra, Social Welfare Minister Khajan Das, MLA Bhupal Ram Tamta, Secretary and Transport Commissioner Ravinath Raman, along with other officials of the Transport Department and UTC were present on the occasion.
