Dehradun, 19 Nov: For 26 years, the Bajaj Institute for Learning (BIL) has been a beacon of hope in Dehradun, providing absolutely-free education to nearly 150 hearing-impaired students, each term. From its humble beginnings on Rajpur Road to its present campus on Sahastradhara Road, BIL – through the DEEDS Public Charitable Trust – has continued to empower young individuals with knowledge and skills for a brighter future.

Building on this mission, Deeds India has collaborated with Rahul Bajaj – known for his endeavours in hospitality with Out of the Blue, Mumbai, 25 years of legacy restaurant, and the iconic Anglo-Indian Café in Lonavala – to launch ‘The Silent Bistro’, a first-of-its-kind culinary destination dedicated to inclusivity.

Located at Sahastradhara Road, Dehradun, The Silent Bistro will open to the public on 20 September. It aims to create a unique culinary experience while also providing employment and opportunities for the hearing-impaired (deaf) community.

Guests at The Silent Bistro can look forward to a thoughtfully curated menu featuring Baked Biryani, Swiss Fondue, Potato Rosti, Poi Pockets Signature desserts and artisanal ice creams.

Rahul Bajaj has also brought his philosophy of #SLO – Sustainable Local & Organic Produce of Uttarakhand into the concept. Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj has inspired him to use native Uttarakhand products. Rahul used hemp seeds to create the world’s first hemp seed fondue, hemp seed pesto, and hemp seed risotto. He has also innovated with rhododendron (Buransh, the state flower of Uttarakhand and Nagaland) to craft ice creams, and Japanese style cheesecakes. They are also making keto friendly sugar free deserts in the Bistro.

“The Silent Bistro is more than just a restaurant; it is a statement of our commitment to creating opportunities and celebrating the talents within the deaf community. Our mission is to create a space where great food and great purpose come together.”

Deeds India has been at the forefront of empowering the deaf community, supported by prominent figures such as Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and John Abraham. The organisation has also built strong partnerships with brands including Lenskart, Lemon Tree Hotels and Taj Hotels, working toward a shared vision of an inclusive society.

The Silent Bistro was inaugurated on 18 September 18 by Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj and Amrita Rawat, in the presence of distinguished guests from Uttarakhand.
