Dehradun, 16 Jul: On the occasion of the folk festival, Harela, Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), Jolly Grant, launched a ‘Go Green Campus’ campaign. During this event, various species of fruit-bearing trees including Jamun, Amla, Harad, Arjun, and Beheda, as well as flowering plants, were planted.

On Tuesday, a plantation drive was conducted on the SRHU campus. In his message, Dr Vijay Dhasmana, the president of the university, stated that the Harela festival symbolises nature worship and environmental conservation. He emphasised that the survival of humankind depends on the safety of the environment.

President Dhasmana mentioned that the Harela festival also connects the younger generations with their roots. As the youth increasingly forget old festivals, Harela helps reconnect them with their heritage. Celebrating such festivals periodically helps the youth understand the importance of their culture and traditions.

The plantation drive was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Dr Rajendra Dobhal. He urged all members of the university family to consider environmental conservation and cleanliness as their primary duty and to raise awareness about these issues.

On this occasion, Registrar Dr Mukesh Bijalwan, Director (Health Services) of Himalayan Hospital Dr Hemchandra Pandey, Dr SL Jethani, HP Uniyal, Dr Anuradha Kusum, Dr DC Dhasmana, Rupesh Mehrotra, Principal Dr Mohit Verma, Dr Pramod Kumar, Dr Ganesh Bhatt, and others were also present.
