Holi at Nanhi Dunya: Celebration of Unity & Joy

Dehradun, 12 Mar: Nanhi Dunya (The International Movement of Children and their Friends) believes in celebrating all the festivals. Keeping up with the tradition, the colourful festival ‘Holi Utsav’ was celebrated at Nanhi Dunya, Mother House. All the guests were delighted to see the tradition of celebrating festivals in a natural, creative and simple way. Nanhi Dunya was artistically decorated by Satvika Goyal, Rohit, Avinash, Radhe Shyam and children with handmade and natural articles of craft like colourful earthen pots which gave a special aura to the atmosphere. All the participants together made beautiful and colourful rangolis.

The cultural programme included the dance-drama ‘Holi ayi fagun rang barse’ conveying the joy of Holi composed and sung by Kiran Ufat Goyal. Special children in harmony with others enacted a mime in a comic way about the use of mobile phones. The viewers had a good laugh at this realistic and humorous view of life with a mobile today. A ‘Kajri’, ‘Rang barsaye gae Raghuveer’, was performed by the little dancers of the 4 to 7 age group and a Rajasthani dance, ‘Rangrajva’, was also performed along with the young artists of ‘Rangshala’. In the end, children with special needs put up a group performance where everyone including the guests joined the dance onstage and played Holi with flowers and organic colours.

Dr Lalit Narayan Mishra, Additional Director, Urban Development Directorate, was the Chief Guest at the event along with Mahant Hitesh Dass, Abha Menon and Anuj Rao. Dr Lalit Narayan Mishra, emphasised the uniqueness of Nanhi Dunya, highlighting the organisation’s commitment to educating all children. “Everyone is not the same, and that is the beauty of the world,” he remarked, resonating with the spirit of diversity and inclusion. The event also included the traditional Holi play with flowers, filling the air with an infectious energy. Students danced joyfully to popular Holi songs, further elevating the festive atmosphere.

The guests praised the efforts made by the children, volunteers and staff for the presentation and said that it was a remarkable show. Kiran Ulfat Goyal (Chief Promoter of Nanhi Dunya) in her remarks expressed her satisfaction with the success of the event and the importance of celebrating cultural festivals that strengthen community bonds. Others present were Neelam Mishra, VK Goyal, Urmila Thakur, NC Upadhyay, Dr Prashant Rathor and Rohit Shukla.

Highlights of the Holi Mahotsav included –

  • Cultural Performances: Students showcased their talent through dynamic dance performances and melodious Holi songs, adding to the festive ambience.
  • Traditional Sweets: A variety of traditional Holi sweets, including gujiya, were served, adding to the sweet spirit of the celebration.
  • Safe and Supervised Play: Teachers and staff ensured that all activities were carried out safely, with the well-being of students being a top priority throughout the event.
