Mussoorie, 19 Nov: The birth anniversary of India’s first woman Prime Minister, the late Indira Gandhi, was celebrated with reverence, here, today. On this occasion, Congress workers gathered at Mussoorie Shaheed Sthal and paid tribute to Indira Gandhi by garlanding and offering flowers to her statue. Slogans of ‘Indira Gandhi amar rahe’ were also raised on this occasion. Mussoorie Congress President Amit Gupta said that Indira Gandhi is specially remembered in the history of Indian politics. Her recognition was so great that former Prime Minister, the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, while being the leader of the opposition, had described her as an incarnation of Durga. A sharp decision-making ability and popularity had made Indira Gandhi one of the most powerful leaders of the country and the world.

The country remembers Indira Gandhi for three reasons, first, the nationalisation of banks, second, the formation of Bangladesh by defeating Pakistan and, third, the abolition of the Raja Rajwadi system.

On this occasion, city Congress president Amit Gupta expressed concern over the pathetic condition of Indira Gandhi’s statue site. He said that he had many times demanded from the municipality and local administration to improve it, as also better maintenance of the statues of all the great person installed in Mussoorie. Unfortunately, neither the local administration nor the municipality had worked in this direction. He stated that a delegation of the Congress would soon meet the SDM and raise these demands.

Present on this occasion were Ramesh Rao, Mahimanand, Rafiq Ahmed, Rajesh Pratap Malla, Deepchand Sajwan, Bharat and many others.
