Dehradun, 12 Jun: Joshimath tehsil of Chamoli district will now be known by its ancient name Jyotirmath. In addition, Koshyakutoli of Nainital district will now be known as Pargana Kainchi Dham Tehsil.

It may be recalled that this initiative of Chief Minister has been approved by the Centre which has agreed to the change of name of these two Tehsils (in district Chamoli and district Nainital respectively).

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had announced change in the name of Joshimath to Jyotirmath during a programme organised at Ghat in Chamoli district last year. The local people had been demanding this for a long time. This demand was also raised prominently in front of the Chief Minister. Dhami took cognisance of this and announced the name change. Consequently, a proposal was made and sent to the Government of India. Now the Centre has approved the proposal on Jyotirmath Tehsil. The local people have welcomed the decision of the government.

In addition, Chief Minister Dhami had also announced Koshyakutoli tehsil as Kainchi Dham on the foundation day (15 June) celebrations of Kainchi Dham temple last year. To implement the announcement of the CM, a proposal for change of name of the tehsil was sent to the Government of India by the state government for approval. After the approval, Koshyakutoli of Nainital district will now be known as Pargana Shri Kainchi Dham Tehsil. The local people and the devotees of Baba Neeb Karori Maharaj have welcomed the decision of the government and expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
