DEHRADUN, 12 Apr: The North Zone II Regional Conference organized by the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal, commenced on Saturday at Hotel Hyatt Centric. Judges of the Supreme Court, High Courts, and from District Courts participated in the conference.
The event began with the National Anthem, followed by an address from Justice Rajesh Bindal of the Supreme Court. On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, he remarked that judges should serve in the spirit of lord Hanuman—as dedicated servants of justice. He noted that all the states participating from the North Zone had disposed of more than 100 per cent pending cases in the year 2024. He also shared his views on media trials.
Justice Anita Sumanth mooted greater use of video conferencing in courts to enhance accessibility and efficiency. Justice Augustine George Masih emphasized the need to improve infrastructure and increase the number of judges to make mediation more effective. He also advocated for the promotion of online dispute resolution on the lines of international practices. Justice Manmohan and Justice AP Sahi shared their views on maintaining a healthy balance between the Judiciary and media. Justice Aniruddha Bose, Director of the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal, stated that access to justice in India has become significantly easier, and litigants are now able to approach courts more readily. However, he stressed the importance of focusing on the quality of justice delivered.
Chief Justice Guhananthan Narendar of the Uttarakhand High Court provided insights into the spiritual and tourist destinations of Devbhoomi  including its sacred rivers and shrines. He pointed out that digitization and the transition to paperless courts are among the biggest challenges facing the Judiciary today.
