Cong hosts condolence meeting, pays tribute to Manmohan Singh in Doon

Dehradun, 27 Dec: A condolence meeting was held at the Congress Bhawan here today to mourn the sudden demise of senior Congress leader and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh who passed away last night. The meeting, chaired by State Congress President Karan Mahara, saw the participation of senior Congress leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya, National Secretary and Uttarakhand Co-in-charge Surendra Sharma, former National Secretary Prakash Joshi, Deputy Leader of Congress Legislative Party Bhuvan Kapri, former MP Pradeep Tamta, and Govind Singh Kunjwal amongst others.

At the condolence meeting, Congress leaders and workers paid their respects to Dr Manmohan Singh by offering floral tributes before his photograph. Mahara and Yashpal Arya expressed deep sorrow, describing the passing of Dr Manmohan Singh as an irreparable loss to both the Congress Party and the nation.

Mahara asserted that Dr Manmohan Singh, a world-renowned economist and the architect of India’s economic reforms, had played a pivotal role in the country’s development. His untimely demise is a moment of immense grief for all in the party and in the country.

Yashpal Arya reflected on Dr Manmohan Singh’s impactful tenure as Prime Minister, during which Singh introduced transformative schemes such as the Right to Information (RTI), Right to Food, Right to Education, and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA). Arya observed that these initiatives were milestones in India’s progress.

Arya added that Dr Manmohan Singh’s contributions as an economist gave new heights to the Indian economy. He said that the legacy left by Dr Singh would endure. The void his death has created in politics and public life could never be filled.

At the meeting, Congress members also observed two minutes of silence to pray for Dr Singh’s soul and extended their condolences to his family and loved ones.

Among those present were State Vice President (Organisation) Mathura Dutt Joshi, State Vice President Suryakant Dhasmana, General Secretary Naveen Joshi, Yakub Siddiqui, Rajendra Shah, Godavari Thapli, Media Chairman Rajiv Mehrishi, MLA Ravi Bahadur, former minister Hira Singh Bist, Mahanagar Congress President Jaswinder Singh Gogi, and a host of other Congress leaders and workers.
