Lok Adalat: 12,675 cases resolved in a single day

DEHRADUN, 10 May: As per the directions of the National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Dehradun organized a National Lok Adalat on Saturday (May 10), from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The event was conducted across multiple court complexes including the District Court headquarters in Dehradun and subordinate courts in Rishikesh, Vikasnagar, Doiwala, and Mussoorie.
The Lok Adalat addressed a wide range of cases including motor accident claims, civil matters, family disputes, cheque bounce cases, and other compoundable criminal cases.
A total of 12,675 cases were resolved during the Lok Adalat, which included: 106 criminal compoundable cases, 719 cheque bounce cases, 20 money recovery suits, 573 motor accident claim tribunal (MACT) cases, 87 family dispute cases, 11,097 traffic challan-related offenses, 73 other civil matters and Settlements worth a total of ₹14,58,76,878 were reached.
In addition, the following settlements were made at the respective subordinate courts:
Vikasnagar Court: 1,163 cases settled with revenue of ₹1,71,25,910
Rishikesh Court: 962 cases settled with revenue of ₹1,62,07,043
Doiwala Court: 178 cases settled with revenue of ₹3,12,300
Mussoorie Court: 47 cases settled with revenue of ₹4,06,651
Pre-litigation matters were also taken up and resolved during this Lok Adalat. A total of 3,754 pre-litigation cases were settled, resulting in agreements involving ₹2,53,53,999.
Seema Dungarakoti, Secretary/Senior Civil Judge, District Legal Services Authority, Dehradun, stated that Lok Adalats are an effective medium for easy and speedy justice where aggrieved parties reach amicable settlements, decisions are final, and court fees are refunded to the parties upon settlement.
