Dehradun, 24 Jun: BJP state president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt today strongly condemned a Congress MLA for publicly using offensive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing it as reflective of Congress’s culture. He was referring to a recent statement by Congress MLA Madan Bisht that has gone viral on social media, but chose not to name him. Bhatt said that while the Congress has long indulged in abusive and unparliamentary language, it is unacceptable that an MLA who has sworn allegiance to the Constitution should make such malicious remarks against the PM.

He added that Congress leaders have been competing for years now to hurl insults at the PM, but such conduct should not be replicated in Devbhoomi. He stressed that while the political differences are natural, making derogatory comments about someone’s late father is wholly unacceptable and against the traditions and values of Uttarakhand.

Bhatt criticised the Congress leadership for remaining silent on the issue and demanded that it clarify whether it supports the statement. He said Congress must set guidelines for its unruly MLAs, who may have reached the Assembly by accident but lack decorum and propriety. He asserted that it is the responsibility of both the state and central leadership of Congress to take cognisance of the MLA’s remark and issue a public apology.

The BJP state president further warned that BJP workers will oppose such irresponsible behaviour at every level, recalling that the same MLA had earlier been in controversy for assaulting an officer and vandalising property at night. Bhatt said BJP workers will not tolerate such actions, and Congress, which often invokes morality while levelling accusations against others, must apologise for its MLA’s conduct.
