SJA celebrates Independence Day

Dehradun, 16 Aug: St Joseph’s Academy celebrated the 79th Independence Day with great fervour and patriotic zeal, here, on 15 August. The celebrations commenced promptly at 8:00 a.m. in the school premises, with the entire campus adorned in the hues of the tricolour.

The programme began with the arrival of the Chief Guest, Major General Gurpreet Singh, a third generation Army Officer and SJA Alumnus of 1985 batch, who was warmly welcomed by Principal Brother Joseph, Principal, along with Brother Astinus Kujur, Community Leader, and Brother Caroll, in the presence of the School Alumni, Coordinators, teachers, and students. After a brief introduction, the Flag Hoisting ceremony took place, with the Tricolour unfurling majestically against the clear morning sky. The entire assembly sang the National Anthem with pride, their voices resonating with unity and devotion to the nation.

Following the flag ceremony, the Chief Guest was escorted for tea, after which everyone moved to the school auditorium for the cultural programme. The event began with a solemn prayer, invoking blessings for the nation’s peace and progress. This was followed by a stirring Hindi Poem, which evoked the struggles, sacrifices, and aspirations of the freedom fighters. The audience was then treated to a vibrant Classical Dance, symbolising India’s cultural diversity. This was followed by a Hindi Poem and an eloquent English Speech highlighting the significance of independence and the responsibilities it entails. A melodious performance by the SJA Choir filled the hall with patriotic fervour, leading to the Hindi Speech, which delved deep into the nation’s journey and values.

An informative and visually captivating PowerPoint Presentation by the SJA Tech Board on “India’s Struggle for Freedom and Its Major Achievements Post-Independence” offered students a comprehensive view of the nation’s progress. The English Choir then presented soulful renditions that inspired pride and hope for the future. The Chief Guest, Major General Gurpreet Singh, commended the students and staff for their commitment to preserving the spirit of patriotism. He took the students through his undaunted journey of courage while upholding the belief ‘Discipline is Freedom’!

A memento was presented to him as a token of gratitude. The celebration concluded with the address by Brother Joseph, who urged the students to uphold the values of discipline, unity, and service to the nation.
