Dehradun, 16 Aug: The Doon School celebrated the 79th Independence Day with a ceremonial flag hoisting and the National Anthem, led by Chief Guest Brigadier RS Thapa, Deputy GOC & Station Commander, HQs Uttarakhand Sub Area. This was followed by a plantation drive, with the Chief Guest planting a sapling near the Main Building, symbolising growth, sustainability, and a commitment to the future.
An assembly in the auditorium featured a stirring performance by the School Orchestra of ‘Kandho Se Kandha Milta Hai’ by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, capturing the spirit of unity and courage. In his address, the Headmaster reflected on the 78 years since India’s first flag hoisting on 15 August 1947, calling this the 79th time the Tricolour has risen in free India. He reminded students that independence came at a great cost and must be preserved with pride, unity, and responsibility.
Brig Thapa inspired students to cherish independence at every stage of life, honour the sacrifices of martyrs, and contribute selflessly to the nation. He urged them to dream big, act on those dreams, respect elders, and fight injustice, negativity, and inequality. “The future begins now,” he affirmed, calling upon the boys to be warriors in their own spheres.
The celebrations concluded on a resounding note of pride, unity, and hope reminding all that freedom is not only a legacy to honour, but a responsibility to uphold.
