Mussoorie, 10 Aug: A major accident was averted in Mussoorie when a careless jeep driver hit two-wheelers parked on the roadside and also hit two women. This resulted in chaos near the Little Lama Restaurant located on Upper Mall Road,
According to eyewitnesses, the jeep driver lost control and hit the parked bikes and moved towards two women coming from the front. In this accident, one woman was seriously injured while the other woman did not receive any injuries. People present immediately ran for help, but before anyone could catch the jeep driver, he fled from the spot after seeing the crowd.
On receiving the information about the accident, Mussoorie Kotwali Police immediately reached the spot, and the injured woman was admitted to the nearest hospital for first aid. The police have seized the jeep and arrested the absconding driver. Action is being taken as per rules.

A local shopkeeper present on the spot said the speed of the jeep was not great, otherwise the accident could have been very serious. The road has become very narrow. Shops are on one side and vehicles parked on the other, due to which there is no way left for pedestrians. He said that there is illegal parking and uncontrolled movement of vehicles on the Upper Mall Road. The operation of big vehicles on narrow roads is becoming a danger for pedestrians. Keeping in view the safety of both local citizens and tourists, people are demanding that the administration that strict action should be taken against two-wheelers and four-wheelers parked on the roadside. Regular police patrolling should be increased so that compliance of traffic rules can be ensured.
