Max Hospital & FOGSI hold Walkathon on Saving the Girl Child

DEHRADUN, 2 Jan: Max Hospital Dehradun and Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) welcomed the New Year by dedicating a walk-a-thon on saving & educating the girl child. Students, doctors, youth and elderly came together today in the Max Hospital premises to move the city with the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” slogan.
Dr Luna Pant, President, FOGSI, Dehradun, invited all clinicians, social groups, NGOs and healthcare providers to actively participate in this awareness walkathon.
The walkathon started from Max Hospital Dehradun via Ramkrishna Mission Ashram and ended at the main gate of the Hospital.
The walk was flagged off by Chief Guest Dr Suman Sethi, President of IMA, Dehradun, along with Dr Luna Pant, President (FOGSI), Dehradun, and Dr Sandeep Singh Tanwar, Vice President, Operations, and Unit Head, Max Hospital, Dehradun.
Dr Rashmi Varshney, Principal Consultant, Obstetrics & Gynecological Department, Max Hospital, stated, “This walkathon is being held all over India on the same day, in all 29 states, under all 240 FOGSI chapters/units. This national activity, which is being performed on such a big level with lakhs of people coming together, will also be nominated for the India book of records.”
The “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” phrase was first coined by FOGSI in 2008.
The walk was followed by addresses and discussions on birth, education and empowerment of the girl child from Chief Guest, Dr Suman Sethi, Dr Luna Pant and Dr Sandeep Singh Tanwar. Others present on the occasion were Dr Jyoti Raina, Consultant, Max Hospital, Dr Meenu Vaish, Dr Anu Dhir, Dr Manju Kala and Dr Pragya Kalra, Secretary, FOGSI.
