Dehradun, 24 May: The Vande Bharat Express to run between Dehradun and Delhi will become operational from 28 May. A tentative schedule has been released by the Railway Board in this regard. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the inaugural run of the train from Dehradun through video conferencing while Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav will be personally present at Dehradun Railway Station. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will also be present during the inauguration ceremony.

Modi is scheduled to flag off the train through Video Conferencing at 11 a.m.

This will be the first Vande Bharat to be introduced in Uttarakhand. With world class amenities, it will herald a new era of comfortable travel experience, especially for the tourists travelling to the state. The train has been made indigenously and is equipped with advanced safety features including the Kavach technology. It is part of the vision of the Prime Minister of providing cleaner means of public transport. Indian Railways is on a quest to completely electrify rail routes in the country. Moving ahead in this direction, Prime Minster will dedicate the newly electrified rail line sections in Uttarakhand. With this, the state will have its entire rail route 100 percent electrified. Trains run by electric traction on the electrified sections will result in increase in speed of trains and enhance haulage capacity.

As per the tentative schedule released by the Railway Board, the train will run for six days in a week. It will not run on Wednesdays. The train will formally start on 28 May. It will depart at 7 a.m. from Dehradun and reach Anand Vihar Station in Delhi at 11:45 a.m. While, earlier, it was being indicated by the Railways that it will only stop at Saharanpur in between and the total journey time between Dehradun and Anand Vihar (Delhi) will be around three and half hours, a total of five stoppages have been added as per the schedule making the total journey time to around four hours and forty five minutes.

Joint Director (Coaching) Railway Board, Vivek Kumar Sinha said that the train will have only five stoppages between Dehradun and Delhi. These include Haridwar, Roorkee, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar and Meerut. He also stated that the maximum speed of the train will be 110 kilometres per hour with an average speed of 63.41 km per hour. The fare of the train will also be decided soon. It will only be slightly higher than that of Shatabdi Express.

Vande Bharat will reach Delhi in one hour less as compared to Shatabdi Express and despite the relatively slower speed as compared to the other Vande Bharat trains, it will still be the fastest train to run in Uttarakhand. The train’s speed will be 60 km per hour while passing from Rajaji National Park area.
