Mussoorie, 2 Nov: Hotel, homestay and Bed & Breakfast (B&B) operators facing MDDA notices were left waiting on Monday, as no hearings could be held at the SDM office in Mussoorie.

A large number of operators had gathered at the SDM office in the court complex to present their documents and explain their cases. However, SDM Rahul Anand was reportedly away in Dehradun attending an official meeting. The operators subsequently visited the nearby MDDA office, where they marked their attendance, signed the required papers and were given fresh dates. Several were given 26 November to appear before the SDM with their documents.

The repeated visits have caused particular hardship to senior citizens, while working professionals and business owners say the process is affecting their daily responsibilities. Young entrepreneurs who returned to Mussoorie after working elsewhere or abroad to establish hotels, homestays and B&B ventures are also worried about the future of their businesses and livelihoods.

Operators continue to seek clarity on land-use regulations, the town’s Master Plan, building-map approvals and a possible one-time settlement policy. With 26 November set as the next date for several operators, uncertainty over their businesses remains.
