NCC cadets from U’khand scale Mount Everest

Dehradun, 19 May: Three National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from Uttarakhand have etched their names in history by successfully summiting Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak on 18 May. With their feat, have not only made the state proud but have also become a major source of inspiration for others to follow.  Their triumph is a glowing example of courage, perseverance, and the power of disciplined hard work.

The cadets who brought glory to the state and the nation are Cadet Virendra Samant from 29 Uttarakhand Battalion NCC, Dehradun; Cadet Mukul Bangwal from 4 Uttarakhand Battalion NCC, Pauri; and Cadet Sachin Kumar from 3 Uttarakhand Battalion NCC, Uttarkashi. Their ascent is not just a personal achievement but a symbolic reminder that Indian youth, with determination and resolve, can conquer any summit, literal or figurative.

Commenting on his and his fellow cadets, Cadet Virendra Samant asserted that this is a victory for every young Indian who dares to dream big. He however reminded that the cadets encountered severe challenges, but their faith in their ability and in the team and the dream itself never wavered.

The expedition was spearheaded by the NCC with the aim of inculcating a spirit of adventure, leadership, and self-reliance among the youth of the country. Braving extreme weather, high altitudes, and mental fatigue, the cadets exhibited exceptional teamwork and resilience, which eventually led them to the top of the world.

Major General Rohan Anand, Sena Medal, Additional Director General, NCC Uttarakhand Directorate, lauded the cadets, stating that the leadership is forged in the crucible of adversity, and that these bravehearts have proven this with flying colours. Their journey will inspire countless others to face challenges head-on and strive for excellence.

The accomplishment is not theirs alone as it is a proud moment for the entire nation and in particular for the state Their bravery, discipline, and spirit of service echo the very ethos of the NCC. Their journey has become a beacon for today’s youth, showing that even the most impossible dreams are achievable with resolve and the right guidance.

The cadets attributed their success of the expedition also to the relentless support extended by seasoned mountaineers, instructors, and NCC mentors. Key contributions also came from the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board, the Indian Army’s mountaineering team, and several local organisations.
