Dehradun, 21 Dec: Rekha Sharma, Chairperson, National Commission for Women, met Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) today for a detailed discussion on various topics including women’s empowerment at the Raj Bhawan, here.
The Governor spoke highly of the women of Uttarakhand and said they are capable of bringing a revolution of change. They are the most powerful members of the family and he has witnessed the work done by women’s groups during his visit to the districts. The Governor asked Rekha Sharma to assist in proper marketing, packaging and branding of the products of women self-help groups. The Commission, he advised, should help in value addition for their economic empowerment.
On her part, Rekha Sharma said that apart from redressal of complaints related to women, the Commission organises various training programmes. Women and girls are being trained under the Digital Shakti programme. She assured the Governor that the Commission would cooperate in programmes related to women empowerment in Uttarakhand.
State Women’s Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandwal was also present on the occasion.
