Dehradun, 13 Mar: Following instructions from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami regarding land laws, the Dehradun district administration has taken decisive action. In this regard, District Magistrate (DM) Savin Bansal has instructed all SDMs to expedite action on cases of violations under Sections 154(4)(3)(a), 154(4)(3)(b), and 166/167 of the Zamindari Abolition Act within their respective jurisdictions.

The district administration has claimed to have initiated significant measures against individuals from outside the state who purchased land exceeding 250 square meters without permission, or those who failed to utilise purchased land for its designated purpose within the stipulated time or used the land for other purposes.

Pargana officers, citing clear violations of Sections 154(4)(3)(a) and 154(4)(3)(b) of the Zamindari Abolition Act, had issued court notices in these cases and expedited proceedings. Approximately 200 hectares of purchased land has been preliminarily vested in the state government. Additionally, the pargana officers have issued more court notices, directing the parties concerned to present their cases and evidence before the court. The notices clearly state that in case the parties fail to submit their evidence and arguments by the designated date, the land will be permanently reverted to the state government.

In compliance with the CM’s directives, action is being taken against those who have purchased land in and around Dehradun by violating rules or by concealing facts. These individuals, after obtaining permission for other purposes, are using the land for homestays, farmhouses, or other personal uses, depriving Uttarakhand’s citizens of land availability and causing land prices to skyrocket. As per the CM’s instructions, action is being taken to revert such land to the state government.

The government claims that to preserve the cultural heritage of Devbhoomi and protect the demographic environment and interests of the state’s citizens, a new land law has been implemented in Uttarakhand under the guidance of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The government also claims that the implementation of this strict land law has curbed uncontrolled land purchases and sales. The district administration claims to be working diligently on this matter, as per the Chief Minister’s directives.

Under Section 154 of the Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and Land Management Act (As applicable in Uttarakhand), action has been taken on a total of 393 cases, including 21.89 hectares in Rishikesh tehsil, 2.82 hectares in Doiwala, 68.84 hectares in Sadar tehsil, and 107.12 hectares in Vikasnagar. Out of these, action has been taken on 280 cases under Sections 154(4)(3)(a), 154(4)(3)(b), and 166/167, and 200 hectares of land has been reverted to the state government under Sections 166 and 167.
