Dehradun, 21 May: During the Vice-Chancellors’ Conference held at Raj Bhavan, Dehradun, a presentation was made before Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd), on the work being done in the semiconductor sector by Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar. Four students of the university—Anjali Goswami, Vidushi Mittal, Shreyansh, and Vansh Agarwal—gave a detailed technical presentation.

During the presentation, the University Vice-Chancellor, Prof Manmohan Singh Chauhan, stated that, under the Government of India’s “Chip to Startup (C2S)” programme, the university has been provided advanced equipment worth approximately Rs 10 crore for the establishment of a VLSI lab. Through these resources, students are receiving cutting-edge technical training to help them become self-reliant. Over the past year, more than 30 students have been trained in this field and have also been provided with internship opportunities. Each year, 60 students will undergo a six-week industrial training and internship. It is a matter of pride that all 10 students trained under this programme have been selected by the semiconductor startup ‘Nextron Technology’.

The Governor praised the university’s efforts and stated that Pantnagar will soon become a major hub for semiconductor startups. He emphasised that future warfare will be technologically driven, with artificial intelligence, drones, and guided missiles playing decisive roles—all of which rely heavily on semiconductor chips. Encouraging the students, the Governor said that in the field of technology, students are both their own teachers and learners. They must not only acquire knowledge but also share it by training others. The Governor congratulated the students on their innovations and hard work and lauded the university’s achievements.

Present on the occasion were Vice-Chancellor Dr Manmohan Singh Chauhan, Dr RPS Gangwar (Head of Electronics and Communication Department and Director, Self-Finance Courses), Dr Ajit Singh Nain (Director, Research), and students Anjali Goswami, Vidushi Mittal, Shreyansh, Vansh Agarwal, Payal Bisht, Jyoti Pant, Karan Batra, Mohit Pandey, Mohit Sarkar, and Vivek Kumar.
