Parliamentary Official Language Committee members meet Governor

Dehradun, 9 May: Members of the First Sub-Committee of the Parliamentary Official Language Committee of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, met Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) at the Raj Bhavan, here, on Friday.

The sub-committee is being led by Rajya Sabha MP and Convenor Dr Dinesh Sharma. During their three-day visit to Uttarakhand, the committee members will hold meetings with various departments to review the progress of the use of Hindi as the official language in government offices.

Welcoming the committee, the Governor said that Uttarakhand has been a cradle of the Hindi language and that its cultural and educational traditions are deeply influenced by Hindi. He stated that the state is consistently striving to promote the use of Hindi in official work and public communication.

Among the dignitaries present were MPs Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, Ramchandra Jangra, Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, Satpal Brahmachari, Rajesh Verma, Kishori Lal; Secretary to the Governor Ravinath Raman; Additional Secretary Swati S Bhadauria; and Sub-Committee Secretary Prem Narayan, among others.
